Oakfield Community Primary School in Dartford took part in Translation Nation in the summer of 2014. They heard an exciting story in Spanish told by translator Sarah and were then keen to share their own languages. They had 16 different languages between them, including Tigrinya, Yoruba, Pashto and Norwegian! Eight family members joined the class to take part in the storytelling and this led to a fantastic range of stories for the children to choose from and translate into English. After their final performances pupils reflected on their achievements – “I liked it when we had to teach our partner a tongue which you knew, and I taught my partner French” (Caine), “I enjoyed working with my group and making all the props” (Chenai), “My challenge was going on stage and projecting my voice” (Beatrice). They had had a great three project days together.
