worcesters primary school

French speaking actress Emily arrived at Worcesters Primary in Enfield in June 2014 to take the children on a Translation Nation journey. The whole of KS2 watched and listened as Emily became all of the characters of her French story in a high energy opening storytelling. All of their help was needed with call and response moments to make sure that character Sophie didn’t get eaten by the wolf on the streets of Paris! For Year 5 the fun had only just begun, as next Emily had a variety of language games and exercises in store to build their confidence to speak their own home languages and enable them to share stories from their diverse cultures. On day 2 of the project family members of the children came in to school to tell the group yet more magical stories from around the world in their mother tongues. The Translation Nation group chose their favourite stories and then worked in groups to create their own detailed versions in English. By the end of the three days Year 5 had proven themselves to be fantastic linguists, writers and also performers! Emily and their teacher were extremely proud, and the children were eager to know when Translation Nation would be returning.
